The problem
Energy professionals need well data in the field, often standing on a lease road with one bar of signal, not at a desk. The existing experience assumed a browser and a good connection.
The hard constraint was rendering: thousands of well markers on a single map view, on mid-range devices, without the app becoming unusable.
What I did
I built the React Native app from the ground up around that constraint. A custom clustering algorithm collapsed dense marker groups at low zoom, and an aggressive caching layer kept previously-viewed regions instant.
I added offline-capable well data browsing, custom overlays for production metrics, and integration with the Petro Ninja web platform's API so field and desk saw the same data.
What happened
Data processing and map rendering both improved by around 40%, which was the difference between an app people abandoned and one they used on site. It now serves more than 10,000 energy professionals.
